Small Wild Moments in an Ordinary Life

Hi, I'm Emily.

I have an 8:30-5:00 office job and live in suburban London with my mother and two lurchers.

I've always been drawn to wild and natural living, and I have a range of interests from herbalism, to veganism, to solo travel, to astrology and Human Design.

I decided to start a personal project to introduce tiny wild moments into my everyday ordinary life, and am using this blog and my Instagram page to document my journey - both for myself and for anyone else who would like to follow along!

Spent this weekend at @vegancampout festival. This was my fifth time attending - this year I went on my own, but everyone is so friendly that it's such an easy place to do solo.

Being vegan in this non-vegan world can feel challenging, frustrating and sometimes lonely. So having a space like this where you are surrounded by 7000 fellow vegans (and some non-vegans too), as well as having 50 food stalls where you can eat absolutely anything, is such a rare and special thing!

So many inspiring talks and chats with people this weekend, and so much yummy food 🍔🍟🍨🌯 🍮 🍺

This year has also been a welcome distraction from what was a difficult and emotional week for me.

Sadly I'm back to the real world now, I will most definitely be back again next year though 🌱

Choosing to make a nicer meal and eat in the garden, just to make my WFH lunch a little more special.

I find it also helps me stay in a better headspace for the afternoon than spending my lunchtime scrolling 😊

1) Garden butterfly 🦋 (sadly couldn't get a picture of the Jersey Tiger Moth which joined this week's pilates class)
2) Blooming orchid 🌺
3) Yoga/pilates 5 days in a row, even if just 10 mins. Very proud of myself 😊
4) Starbucks lunch treat
5) Blackberries spotted around the corner from work
6) Really enjoying this one, more than the last one

This January felt like my body really needed a detox so I challenged myself to do the plant-based Whole30 - I'm already vegan but I cut out grains, sugar, alcohol and caffeine for the whole month.

And honestly it was the best decision...I lost 4kg (around 9 pounds) and I feel so so much lighter and healthier.

These pictures are some of the things I ate this month, and I wrote a blog post about my experiences with this challenge and how I want to move forwards into February.

Some little things I added to my weekly working from home day to make it feel more special...

- lemongrass candle
- journalling before work
- decaf mushroom coffee and herbal teas
- calming autumn playlist
- hazelnut chocolate
- two dog walks without my phone.

This evening's walk included a bright, beautiful moon and almost being hit in the face by a bat 🦇

I've been enjoying finding little things to add into my days over the past week, the "little wildnesses" as I've been calling them. There will be more on the way I'm sure 😊

I loved the people, the air, the red soil, the daily animal sightings, the relaxed afternoons by the pool, the spectacular sunrises and sunsets, camping in the bush under the stars, seeing Victoria Falls and learning about the local culture.

I'm so grateful to all the staff and fellow volunteers who made this trip so special (and of course special mention to Miss Kitty!)

I'm so sad to have had to leave and I miss everyone already... This one will stick with me for life.
I'll be back in the future if I can!
